This is a selection of photographs taken during the design of the bioreactor.
Thomas Creek BreweryThis is a photo taken at Thomas Creek Brewery in Greenville, SC. The owner graciously let us take some American Ale yeast to begin experimenting with. | ImpellerThis is a representation of an impeller placed inside the bioreactor to keep the culture completely mixed and to provide an even temperature distribution throughout the reactor.

Yeast ExplosionThis is a photo of the fermentation waste collected at Thomas Creek Brewery. Shortly after the waste was collected, the carbon dioxide built up tremendously due to the yeast respiration and caused the liquid to geyser out of its container. | Sheared YeastThis photo shows the fermentation waste after it has been sheared and centrifuged to minimize particulates in the media. | Yeast Media DilutionsThis is a series of dilutions of our yeast media taken from Thomas Creek Brewery. The slurry was extremely thick, so had to be diluted 50% six times before the spectrophotometer would read the optical density. |
